HbbTV Website Development
Jimmy BERNARD | 11 April 2016In the same line as my presales engineer job at Neotion, I recently had a new project that really changed of my usual attributions: the full development of an HbbTV website. HbbTV is now a technology deployed in many TVs and used to display interactive content. Today in Europe, many channels are proposing a HBB portal (if your TV supports it) by simply pushing the red button of your remote control.
Neotion is currently putting a big effort on what new features CAMs can bring with this brand new world that HbbTV is offering to end users. This is why the web site I had to prepare had to recover and display some information embedded in the CAM. Neotion has been using this web site as a demonstration during all exhibitions in 2015.
Behind HbbTV, there is in fact the same technologies than the one we use on the web: HTML, CSS, Java script, PHP and Ajax. I had a large choice of solutions to implement this HbbTV website. After having a close look to each of them, I decided to go for a solution 99% implemented with Java script.
This project has for me been really interesting also because so far my background and personal projects did not gave me the chance to go that far in web technologies. This project was also the occasion for me to keep my development skills up to date. I am really convinced that mastering the technology side is the key for doing my job. It’s critical to advise a customer and to understand the problems he will report.
